Uses:-
Rabeprazole 20mg is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat various conditions related to excessive stomach acid production. It is commonly prescribed for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where it helps reduce heartburn and heal acid damage to the esophagus. Rabeprazole is also effective in treating duodenal ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition involving excessive acid production. Additionally, it is used in combination with antibiotics to eradicate Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium associated with stomach ulcers.
Side Effects:-
Rabeprazole is generally well-tolerated, but it can cause side effects in some people. Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, and nausea. Less frequently, patients may experience dizziness, dry mouth, or an increase in liver enzymes. Long-term use of Rabeprazole can lead to more serious side effects such as vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium levels, and an increased risk of bone fractures. Rarely, it may cause severe allergic reactions, presenting as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
Indication:-
Rabeprazole 20mg is indicated for the treatment of acid-related disorders. For GERD, it reduces stomach acid, alleviating symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. In peptic ulcer disease, Rabeprazole promotes healing by lowering stomach acid levels. It is also indicated for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, where it helps manage symptoms by controlling acid hypersecretion.
