Uses:-
Glimepiride 3 mg + Metformin 500 mg bilayered tablet is a combination medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: glimepiride, which stimulates insulin release from the pancreas, and metformin, which decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity in the body. Together, they help control blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes.
Side Effects:-
- Hypoglycemia: Glimepiride component may cause low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), leading to symptoms such as sweating, trembling, dizziness, and confusion. Combining it with metformin reduces the risk of hypoglycemia.
- Gastrointestinal Upset: Metformin may cause gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, especially when starting the medication.
- Weight Gain: Glimepiride may contribute to weight gain due to increased insulin secretion, although metformin may counteract this effect by promoting weight loss or preventing weight gain.
- Lactic Acidosis: Metformin can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, characterized by symptoms like muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, and irregular heartbeat. It is more common in patients with kidney or liver problems.
- Hypersensitivity Reactions: Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to glimepiride or metformin, such as rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue. Seek medical attention if these occur.
Indication:-
This medication is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes in adults. It is prescribed when diet, exercise, and either metformin or glimepiride alone are not sufficient to control blood sugar levels adequately. Glimepiride 3 mg + Metformin 500 mg tablet helps lower blood glucose levels and reduces the risk of complications associated with diabetes.
