Uses:-
Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin 1000 mg bilayered tablet is a combination medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: glimepiride, which belongs to the sulfonylurea class of drugs, and metformin, a biguanide. Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin, while metformin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production in the liver. Together, they help control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.
Side Effects:-
- Hypoglycemia: One of the common side effects of glimepiride is low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), which may cause symptoms such as sweating, shakiness, dizziness, and confusion. Combining it with metformin reduces the risk of hypoglycemia.
- Gastrointestinal Upset: Metformin component may cause gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. These side effects are usually mild and temporary.
- Weight Gain: Glimepiride may cause weight gain due to increased insulin production. However, metformin may counteract this effect by promoting weight loss or preventing weight gain.
- Lactic Acidosis: Although rare, metformin can cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, characterized by symptoms like weakness, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
- Hypersensitivity Reactions: Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to glimepiride or metformin, such as rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue. Seek medical help if these occur.
Indication:-
This medication is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes in adults when diet, exercise, and either metformin or glimepiride alone do not provide adequate glycemic control. Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin 1000 mg tablet helps lower blood sugar levels and reduces the risk of complications associated with diabetes, such as kidney damage, nerve problems, and heart disease.
