Uses:-

Metformin 500 mg + Glimepiride 1 mg bilayered tablet is a combination medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: metformin, which belongs to the biguanide class, and glimepiride, a sulfonylurea. Metformin works by decreasing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity in the body, while glimepiride stimulates insulin release from the pancreas, thereby reducing blood sugar levels.

Side Effects:-

  • Hypoglycemia: Taking Metformin 500 mg + Glimepiride 1 mg may cause low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), especially if meals are skipped or if strenuous exercise is performed. Symptoms include sweating, trembling, weakness, and confusion.
  • Gastrointestinal Upset: Common side effects of this combination include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and bloating. These symptoms are usually mild and transient.
  • Weight Gain: Glimepiride, one of the components of this medication, may cause weight gain in some individuals. It is important to monitor weight regularly while taking this medication.
  • Hypersensitivity Reactions: Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, itching, or swelling may occur. Seek medical attention if you experience any allergic symptoms.
  • Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Long-term use of metformin may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency in some patients. Regular monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is recommended, and supplementation may be necessary.
