Composition:-
Dapagliflozin 10mg + METOFORMIN 500 MG + SITAGLIPTIN 100 MG
Uses:-
Dapagliflozin 10mg, Metformin 500mg, and Sitagliptin 100mg combination is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. Dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, helps lower blood sugar by promoting glucose excretion in urine. Metformin, a biguanide, reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. Sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, enhances the levels of incretin hormones, increasing insulin release and decreasing glucagon levels in the blood. This combination helps achieve better blood sugar control, reduces HbA1c levels, and may assist in weight management.
Side Effects:-
- Genital Infections: Dapagliflozin may increase the risk of genital infections such as yeast infections and urinary tract infections due to higher glucose levels in the urine. Symptoms can include itching, irritation, and unusual discharge.
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Metformin can cause gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. These effects are often temporary and can be minimized by taking the medication with food.
- Hypoglycemia: While the risk of hypoglycemia is generally low, it can increase when this combination is used with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas. Symptoms include sweating, dizziness, and confusion.
- Dehydration: Dapagliflozin can lead to increased urination, potentially causing dehydration. Patients are advised to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Lactic Acidosis: Metformin has a rare but serious risk of causing lactic acidosis, characterized by muscle pain, respiratory distress, and abdominal pain. Immediate medical attention is necessary if these symptoms occur.
- Ketoacidosis: Dapagliflozin may rarely lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious condition with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Patients should seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms appear.
- Upper Respiratory Infections:
Sitagliptin may increase the risk of upper respiratory infections, with symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, and cough.
Indication:-
This combination is indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control when diet, exercise, and either metformin, dapagliflozin, or sitagliptin alone do not provide adequate blood sugar control. It is suitable for patients requiring additional support to manage their blood sugar levels effectively. This combination therapy can be particularly beneficial for those who need stronger and more comprehensive treatment to reach their glycemic targets.
