Uses:-
Teneligliptin 20mg + Metformin 500mg SR is a combination medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: teneligliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor that helps lower blood sugar levels, and metformin, a biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production in the liver. This combination helps control blood sugar levels by multiple mechanisms, especially after meals, and is prescribed when either medication alone is not sufficient to manage diabetes.
Side Effects:-
- Gastrointestinal Disturbances: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. These effects are usually mild and temporary, often improving with continued use or dose adjustment.
- Hypoglycemia: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur, especially if used in combination with other antidiabetic medications. Symptoms include dizziness, sweating, confusion, and trembling. It is more likely to occur if meals are skipped or inadequate.
- Lactic Acidosis: Metformin may rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, especially in patients with kidney or liver problems. Symptoms include muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal discomfort, and irregular heartbeat. Immediate medical attention is necessary if these symptoms occur.
- Headache and Dizziness: Some patients may experience headaches or dizziness, especially at the beginning of treatment. These effects usually resolve on their own.
- Hypersensitivity Reactions: Allergic reactions to either component of the medication are possible. Symptoms may include rash, itching, swelling, and difficulty breathing. Seek medical help if any allergic reaction is suspected.
Indication:-
This medication is indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes who require additional control of their blood sugar levels. It is particularly beneficial for patients who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with diet, exercise, and metformin alone. Teneligliptin + Metformin combination helps improve fasting and postprandial (after meals) blood glucose levels.
