Composition:-
SITAGLIPTIN 100
Uses:-
Sitagliptin 100 is a medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to a class of drugs called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. Sitagliptin helps control blood sugar levels by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which stimulate insulin release and decrease glucagon levels after meals. It is typically prescribed along with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Side Effects:-
- Hypoglycemia: One of the common side effects of sitagliptin is hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar levels. This may occur when the medication is taken with other antidiabetic drugs or if meals are skipped. Symptoms include sweating, shakiness, confusion, and hunger.
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: Some patients may experience upper respiratory tract infections such as the common cold, sore throat, or nasal congestion while taking sitagliptin. These infections are usually mild and resolve on their own.
- Headache: Headaches are a common side effect reported by some patients. They are usually mild and temporary.
- Stomach Upset: Sitagliptin may cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, or constipation in some individuals. These effects are generally mild and transient.
- Pancreatitis: Rarely, sitagliptin may increase the risk of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Seek medical attention if you experience severe abdominal pain that does not resolve or worsens over time.
Indication:-
Sitagliptin 100 is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. It is recommended when blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone. Sitagliptin helps lower both fasting and postprandial (after meal) blood glucose levels, thereby reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications.
